After a long, hot summer across much of the US, people all over are looking forward to the cooler temperatures the beginning of autumn brings with it. Pumpkin spice flavored foods and beverages are being rolled out in every restaurant and grocery store across the country. As the seasons transition, you may be inclined to change up the décor of your home in anticipation of fall and all the wonderful things that come with it.
Autumn Décor Trends
- Fall Foliage and Pumpkins: Nothing says fall like red, orange, and yellow colored leaves and bright orange pumpkins. If you have a fireplace or mantle, drape a garland of autumn colored leaves to add a quick touch of fall color. Different sized pumpkins and gourds, the iconic symbol of the harvest and fall, can be placed in groups on tables as centerpieces or interest items. Hay bales and groupings of Indian corn are a beautiful way to welcome autumn as well, if you have the space.
- Fall wall décor and Signs: Step into any home décor or craft store starting in July and you will find an abundance of options for autumn themed signage. Signs are a great way to add a quick “Happy Autumn” message to your entryway or living room. If you are unsure about hanging a sign on your wall with a nail, try propping one up against the wall on your welcome table.
- Fall pillows and Blankets: With the change in seasons, comes a change in weather with it. Instead of turning on your heat in September, add a couple of throw pillows and blankets to your family room sofa. Choose warm autumnal colors for the pillows and blankets with soft and comforting fabrics.
The general theme of autumn decorating is bringing the outdoors in. This is the time of year when many people take a deep breath of fresh cool air through open windows. Mirror your décor choices with the colors of the changing leaves outside and the sights and sounds of the season. If decorating your home with an autumn theme isn’t your thing, don’t forget that Halloween is right around the corner. Including a little bit of both themes would be fun, too! Happy Fall, Y’all!
