So it’s time for you to buy a new coffee table. But how do you choose one that’s perfect for your space? Use the simple steps below to help you with your new purchase.

First, measure the room that you will put the coffee table in. You should also measure the open floor space for the coffee table, and finally measure the length of the couch it will be placed in front of. Having all of these measurements will help you in deciding what size of coffee table you will be able to fit in the space, because too large of a coffee table will make your room look tiny and too small of a coffee table may not hold all of your items.

Second, decide what style your room displays. Is it classic? Is it farmhouse chic? Is it mountain rustic? Knowing the style of your room will easily help you choose the style of coffee table that will match perfectly in your room.

Third, what other functions do you need for your coffee table? Will it just be a place to set your coffee in the mornings? Or do you plan to display books, magazines or other decor on top? If you have television remotes that you want to keep hidden, consider a coffee table that has small drawers for such items. If you have larger storage needs, perhaps a coffee table with a bottom plane would be best. That way you can put pretty storage baskets underneath the table, or other decorative items.

Fourth, who will use the coffee table? Are you the only one in the house who uses it, or do you have children and pets at home to consider? If you have small children, perhaps a rounded edged coffee table would be best. Sharp corners can cause bumps and pains for little ones. If you have a pet that likes to chew, perhaps a coffee table made of metal and glass instead of softer wood may be best.

Finally, when you’re shopping for your new coffee table, be sure to carry a photo of your room with you as a reference. This way you will know at a glance if the coffee table will flow nicely with the rest of the decor in your space. And if you still end up choosing a coffee table that doesn’t work with your room, don’t stress. It can always be exchanged.
