One popular way of decorating a large wall in your home is called a gallery wall. A gallery wall is a gathering of at least seven items to hang together in one space. These items can be anything you want, and a gallery wall is a great way to display your personality and things you love. If placed in an area of your home where you welcome visitors, a gallery wall becomes an excellent conversation piece. Before you decide how to coordinate frames in a gallery wall, you will need to determine which frames you will use to give you one of these three styles.
How to Coordinate Frames in a Gallery Wall
- Eclectic – If your interior design style is eclectic, use frames with different sizes, and in varied materials and shape. If every frame is a little bit different from every other one, you create a consistent look of differentiation. Don’t be afraid to add color here either. If you find that you have a few white wood frames, pick a couple of colors that coordinate with your room and paint one or two of them to add some color to your wall. Eclectic gallery walls are not hung in any type of pattern, either. Feel free to hang your items however they look best to you.
- Traditional – If you have a traditional sense of style, choose frames that are the same size, material and shape, and hang them in a symmetrical pattern. In order to keep it from looking too “matchy-matchy,” vary the contents of the frames with photos, paintings, and quotes. Make sure to have some color in the items you are hanging in order to make it eye-catching.
- Transitional – A transitional style is somewhere in between eclectic and traditional. To design a transitional gallery wall, vary the size and material of the frames, but keep them in similar shapes. Transitional frames can be hung in arrangement, but they are usually haphazard as opposed to symmetrical.
Designing your gallery wall may seem like a daunting task at first. Just remember that there is no right or wrong way to create a gallery wall; you loving it is all that matters.
